Visa Guidance for The USA

Before you can apply for your student visa, you will need to apply to a SEVP-approved university. Once accepted, you will be registered for the SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) and pay a SEVIS I-901 fee. The university will then provide you with a Form I-20, after which you can go ahead with your visa application process

Visa Requirements

In addition to the above, you will need a valid passport (valid till 6 months after the expected date of course completion), a non-immigration visa application with Form D-160 confirmation and a photograph in the correct format. You would also need to show proof of sufficient funds to cover your airfare, course fees and living costs, as well as intent to depart the country after completion of your studies

Timelines

Depending on the availability of dates and the complexity of your case, the entire process can take between 2 weeks to even 2 months. The validity of your F-1 visa is only 60 days post graduation. There are ways to extend this by applying for different kinds of extensions, like OPT (Optional Practical Training), which can extend your visa to as much as 24 months

Post-Study Work Rights

Avail OPT of up to 3 years by applying before completing your course. Additionally, you need to get a job directly related to your field of study within 90 days of your course completion
