This program aims to provide a well-rounded business education with a particular emphasis on international banking and finance. It also equips students with transferable professional and managerial skills. The curriculum includes specialised courses on financial markets and risk management. Students will have the opportunity to gain practical experience in financial markets by utilising Bloomberg terminals and building a track record and portfolio. Throughout the year, there will be a focus on enhancing critical thinking and writing skills, with core modules dedicated to employability and current business topics. Students will be guided in developing personal applications, CVs, and cover letters to support their career planning and future employability. As part of the program, students will be required to conduct an independent literature review on a contemporary business issue of their choice, allowing them to cultivate independent thinking, learning, and the application of knowledge to real-world business challenges.
The Global Year 1 is created in partnership with Pearson. The program develops a solid foundation for overseas studies by accustoming students to the university’s academic standards. The program takes place over 8 months which means students can finish their studies faster than the traditional one year. With our student-friendly curriculum and award-winning 1-1 tutor program, students will be well on their way to their dream destination. The program also gives students an opportunity to be a part of the global workforce by completing an 8-week remote internship as well as a ‘Professional Development and Career Readiness’ course run in collaboration with Virtual Internships. The credits for the program are offered by Pearson.
After the completion of the Smart Program, students progress to Northumbria University to study the remaining core and elective courses on campus and complete their degrees. All students who complete the degree successfully, qualify for post-study work rights. Further information on the On-Campus program structure and courses are available with our Admissions Team.
